AN EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK OF EXODUS IN THE BIBLE
And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. The book of Exodus, chapter 4, The Holy Bible.
The above verses from the Bible is part of a conversation between Moses and God. Moses, who? Well, he is a biblical character who lived during the late-bronze, 3500 years back. He was chosen to represent the Israelites, who were slaves in Egypt, to an Egyptian king. Moses was to demand freedom for his people from this Egyptian king, and it is in those circumstances, intimidated by the sheer magnitude of his task, he utters these lines:
“Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”
In response, God says:
“Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”
Shiksha, translated Education in English, is a language training firm which passionately believes that language is a gift from God. For language is not just grammar and pronunciation, it is wisdom, logic, humility, fearlessness and above all: truth; language devoid of these makes a human being repulsive, no matter how high a standard his language has achieved with respect to human linguistic parameters. However, In saying so, we neither relinquish nor minimize the efficaciousness of our roles as facilitators or trainers, but acknowledge the source of everything, including language, as something that comes forth from God.
Languages we believe, more that being taught, need to be acquired in an environment that fosters its use, therefore we make no claims of instant transformation in those we train, but claims of strengthening the foundations of the language of our students by introducing them to the rudiments of the language precisely and reasonably, and subsequently empowering them to discover the language on their own.
